IPHY28
ANNOUNCING:
THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL POLAR HISTORY YEAR
Mission/Vision Statement
International Polar History Year 2028 will celebrate the remarkable history of the increasingly vulnerable polar regions through a global network of activities and exhibitions hosted by local, national and international organizations. From indigenous oral histories to written journals and photographic records, the annals of polar exploration are filled with stories that inform, astound, and inspire. By engaging the broadest possible public, the presentations of these histories will help raise interest and concern for the regions at the ends of our shared Earth ahead of the 2032-33 International Polar Year.
To revive and celebrate the incredible exploits of the heroic figures who challenged the polar regions north and south in wooden ships and early airplanes, and with dog sleds and dirigibles, 2028 has been designated the first International Polar History Year.
In 2028, we foresee a worldwide series of exhibitions, symposia, observances, and educational presentations commemorating the polar travels of Franklin, Kane, Greely, Amundsen, Peary, Byrd, Wilkins, their contemporaries, and all those who broke trail for them.
Please make us aware of any polar programming you are planning for 2028 by contacting us.
